Geneva Criminal Defense Attorneys

At King Law in Geneva, NY, we understand the importance of hiring an attorney who specializes in criminal defense. Because many lawyers in the area tend to be general practitioners. It is not uncommon for general practice lawyers practicing to be drafting a will in the morning, conduct a closing on a home in the afternoon, and appear before a criminal court in the evening. At King Law in Geneva, we make it our business to limit our focus and concentration to criminal law and personal injury alone so that we can provide you with the best chance of success possible. When your future is on the line, which of these two types of attorneys would you want representing you?

What you should Know

Jerry King walking

Retaining a criminal defense lawyer is critical to a quality defense. Individuals facing criminal charges all too often find themselves confused because they lack understanding about their rights and any options that may be available to them. For this reason, It is imperative that  you consult a criminal defense attorney as soon as you become aware of a pending criminal investigation against you, a criminal or felony complaint being filed against you, or even if you suspect that criminal charges might be filed against you. Common practices such as unlawful searches and seizures, interrogation techniques, police misconduct, and photo arrays/line-ups are routinely carried out with very little oversight, making it essential that you seek the legal guidance and advice of qualifiers counsel immediately before, during, or after any such contact with law enforcement takes place. Equally important is selecting an experienced criminal defense attorney who specializes in these areas of criminal law. If you find yourself in any of these situations, our knowledgeable team of Geneva criminal attorneys can provide the assistance you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I contact a criminal defense lawyer?
If you’re uncertain about when or whether you should contact a criminal defense lawyer, it’s likely that you’ve already waited longer than you should have. The procedural aspects of criminal cases tend to evolve rapidly at the outset, and time is not on your side during these early stages. Therefore, it’s always critical that you seek the guidance and advice of an experienced criminal lawyer to avoid finding yourself in a bad situation that could have otherwise been avoided had you sought the advice of criminal counsel first. Failing to do so is a risky decision that could place you in an even worse legal position.
What types of punishment will I receive?
Since every criminal matter is unique to the individual and their circumstances, the potential consequences that every individual facing criminal charges faces is also unique. While some offenses necessitate mandatory minimum terms of incarceration, others may be resolved simply with fines and fees, or even dismissed entirely. Again , It is vital to seek the guidance of an experienced and competent criminal lawyer as soon as possible to determine every potential outcome that you may be confronting. This is yet another reason why you should not wait to contact legal representation.
How long will the criminal process take to resolve?
Due to the varying factual circumstances of each criminal case, the length of time it takes to resolve each matter likewise varies drastically between cases and individuals. Furthermore, it is important to remember that the court alone is responsible for scheduling each appearance, and that the overall duration of the process is influenced heavily by how busy each particular court is during the time it will be addressing your criminal matter. When taking all of these factors into account, it becomes easier to see exactly why criminal cases can be resolved in a matter of  days or even years. Of course, there are always exceptions. And, it is not uncommon to have matters resolved either much sooner or much later. Additionally, it is worth considering too that the period of time it takes to resolve any given criminal matter is influenced by the organization and preparation of your attorney, making it crucial for anyone seeking a speedy resolution to hire a competent and capable representative.
How much does it cost to hire a private criminal defense attorney?
The most frequently asked question that we receive, by far, is one that many attorneys avoid answering: “How much does it cost?” The reason for this reluctance is that the answer is highly dependent on a multitude of factors. These factors include: the complexity of the case, the seriousness of the charges or allegations, the geographic location of the individual or the court where the charges may have originated, whether the charges are being brought before a federal court or a state court, and the level of experience the attorney you wish to hire actually has. Because we understand this concern, we offer a free consultation to discuss your unique circumstances.

GENEVA CASE RESULTS

OUR RESULTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.

Case 1

King Law recently handled a case in the Town of Rose located in Wayne County. King Law quickly reached out to the person who had been arrested for Harassment in the Second Degree and scheduled an in-person appointment. Our client was alleged to have punched another individual multiple times in the face. After meeting with the client in a private and confidential setting, a case strategy was formed. We contacted the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office and negotiated an Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal (“ACD”). An ACD meant that if King Law’s client did not get arrested for 6 months, the case would be dismissed. We went to Court with our client and the Judge put the ACD on the Court record.

Case 2

King Law represented an individual charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree (“AUO3”), Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and a Lane Violation in the Town of Huron in Wayne County. We met with the client and formed two goals: (1) avoid an AUO3 conviction because it is a misdemeanor charge, and (2) avoid the Leaving the Scene of an Accident because of the high fines and high number of DMV points. King Law reached out the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office and negotiated on behalf of the client. An agreement was reached where King Law’s client would plead guilty to just the Lane Violation ticket. A plea was handled through the mail and no Court appearance was necessary. The goal was reached and the misdemeanor AUO3 and Leaving the Scene of an Accident ticket were both dismissed.
