Caesars Sportsbook Lawsuit Timeline and Updates
The following updates reflect legal actions taken against Caesars Sportsbook and Caesars Entertainment. They are meant to show the breadth of legal actions taken against the gambling entity.
April 16, 2026: Caesars Entertainment Becomes One of the Official Sportsbook Providers for MLB Players, Inc.
Caesars Sportsbook and one other company entered into a deal with MLB Players, Inc., to be the official sportsbook providers for the MLB Players, Inc. According to public reporting, the agreement allows Caesars to use the “name, image, and likeness” of “active” baseball players in the major and minor leagues. The change takes effect starting in the 2026 baseball season and may last several years, under the terms of the current arrangement. Caesars Sportsbook is one of several sports betting companies that have been sued by individuals and governmental bodies that claim some of the providers’ promotions were misleading and deceptive.
March 17, 2026: Caesars Rolls Out Promo Offers During March Madness
The NCAA Division 1 college basketball tournament is underway, and March Madness and its brackets have people placing bets across the country. Caesars is currently running multiple promotions in tandem with March Madness. For example, an offer on Fox Sports allows new Caesars users to “bet $1 and double their winnings on their next 10 wagers with 10 × 100% Profit Boost tokens.” Events like March Madness can encourage people to try sportsbook apps for the first time. Promotions that encourage people to place an initial bet and then offer incentives for additional bets are one mechanism cited in lawsuits against Caesars and other sports betting apps. Some lawsuits allege that su
January 5, 2026: Caesars Sportsbook Investigated for Allowing Credit Card Funding from Massachusetts Residents
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is investigating claims that Caesars Sportsbook allowed some app users to fund their accounts with credit cards, which is illegal under state laws. As of December 2025, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission will move ahead with an adjudicatory hearing surrounding Caesars’ alleged acceptance of credit card wagers on its app from state residents.
July 1, 2025: Massachusetts Fines Caesars Sportsbook for Failing to Meet Know-Your-Customer Regulations
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission Investigations and Enforcement Bureau (IEB) has issued a Civil Administrative Penalty to Caesars Sportsbook (American Wagering, Inc., d/b/a Caesars Sportsbook). The penalty resulted in Caesars Sportsbook being charged $10,000 in administrative penalties for noncompliance with Know-Your-Customer regulations.
June 20, 2025: Nonprofit Files Lawsuit Over Caesar’s Deposit Match Promotion
The Public Health Advocacy Institute (PHAI) files a lawsuit against Caesars Online Casino in Pennsylvania, along with its physical counterpart, Harrah’s, Philadelphia Casino, alleging that the promotion is illegal and misleading. According to the lawsuit, the promotion required customers to risk $375,000 in the first seven days of opening an account before they could withdraw winnings.
September 5, 2025: District Judge Orders Class Action Complaint To Arbitration
Citing Caesars’ terms and conditions, which users must sign to use its platforms, a U.S. District judge rules that Cassandra Geske’s class action lawsuit must instead be settled through arbitration. The Vickers class action was also moved to arbitration. This has been a common outcome for people who try to file class actions against sports betting companies with arbitration clauses. However, new legal actions are challenging the legality of such clauses.
September 27, 2023: Caesars Entertainment Faces Class Action Lawsuit After Data Breach
At least four class action lawsuits have been filed against Caesars Entertainment following a massive data breach that compromised the company’s rewards database. The complaints accuse the company of negligence and unjust enrichment. This attack was lodged against people who gamble on-site at Caesars casinos.
March 16, 2023: Second Class Action Complaint Filed Against Caesars
Caesars is facing a lawsuit related to so-called risk-free bets and promotions surrounding these types of bets. Cassandra Geske of Illinois files a class action complaint against Caesars and its parent company, American Wagering, Inc., claiming that the “risk-free bet” promotion deceptively risked users’ actual funds, compensating them with credits that could not be converted to cash. It follows a similar complaint filed in New York a month earlier.
February 23, 2023: Class Action Proposed Against Caesars Entertainment
Plaintiff Lachae Vickers of Far Rockaway, NY, files a class action complaint against Caesars Entertainment in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The complaint alleges that the company’s risk-free bet promotion was deceptive, being neither “free” nor “risk-free,” while luring customers into placing larger bets.
January 23, 2023: Ohio Fines Caesars For Advertising Violations
The Ohio Casino Control Commission fines Caesars over risk-free betting promotions. Caesars (and other online betting platforms) was accused of advertising violations, including its “risk-free” betting promotion. The fine is estimated to be around $150,000.
What Is the Caesars Sportsbook Gambling Lawsuit About?
The Caesars Sportsbook gambling lawsuits allege that its mobile gambling apps encourage compulsive gambling habits in vulnerable users. In complaints filed in multiple states, Caesars is accused of the following counts:
- Deceptive marketing promotions
- Aggressive outreach
- Shifting terms and conditions
- Deceptive or misleading bonuses and “risk-free” promotions
- Failure to comply with state-by-state gambling regulations
- Unlawful targeting of vulnerable or self-excluded users
Additionally, the apps’ 24/7 availability can lead to substantial financial losses and emotional suffering in some people. Caesars has been accused of hyper-targeting people with gambling addiction or problematic gambling. King Law is also investigating lawsuits for people who incurred major losses or engaged in problematic gambling on DraftKings and FanDuel.

Are Caesars Sportsbook Cases Being Filed as Class Action Lawsuits?
Class action lawsuits alleging deceptive promotions have been filed against Caesars Sportsbook and its parent company, but many have been moved to arbitration in subsequent court rulings. For example, a 2023 class action filed by Cassandra Geske was ordered to arbitration by an Illinois federal judge. This is due to the app’s terms of service, which users have to agree to when they sign up. This means that affected people had to seek compensation through the arbitration process.
How Casino Brands Like Caesars Expanded Gambling Into Mobile Sportsbooks
Casino brands like Caesars began moving into the mobile sportsbook niche after a 2018 Supreme Court decision that struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992. New Jersey soon led the way in legalizing online sports betting, with other states following suit.
Caesars leveraged the strength of its existing brand and loyalty programs when it launched its Caesars Casino App in New Jersey in 2018, which offered limited sports betting. Caesars Sportsbook, a more comprehensive sports betting app, launched in eight states in August 2021, expanding to more states in the following years.
How Does Caesars Sportsbook Platform Allegedly Encourage Compulsive Gambling?
Mobile platforms like Caesars Sportsbook are alleged to encourage compulsive gambling in ways that traditional, in-person gambling cannot. These traits can passively or actively encourage high-risk usage, especially in young people or those with problematic gambling habits.
Here are some of the Caesars Sportsbook app features that are alleged to encourage excessive gambling in some people:
- 24/7 availability
- Low-friction access to betting markets and games
- Low-friction account funding and transfers
- Fast wager resolution
- Loyalty programs for frequent users and big bettors (e.g., Rewards Credits and Tier Credits)
- Promotional offers, often with deceptive advertising (e.g., bonus bets and promo codes)
- Push notifications and tailored customer outreach
Why These Caesars’ Features Raise Legal Concerns
Alleged deceptive promotions and unlawful betting practices by Caesars could encourage problematic gambling habits and associated mental health issues. For example, a study published in European Psychiatry found a strong positive correlation “between higher levels of addiction (assessed by DSM-V gambling disorder criteria) and both depression and anxiety scores.”
If Caesars is found to intentionally or negligently supply a product that hurt people, they could be found liable in civil courts.
Caesars Sportsbook Promotions, Bonuses, and Advertising Practices
Lawsuits against Caesars Sportsbook have alleged that the app utilizes deceptive practices. For example, legal complaints allege that promotions and bonuses make it harder for users to understand what they are risking and what they are theoretically able to win.
Here are some of tactics Caesars Sportsbook used that are alleged to be problematic:
- A 2022–2023 campaign advertising “free bets” did not reimburse losses with real money. Instead, it offered in-game credits that could only be used to make more bets.
- Promotional credits, such as those above, would quickly expire if not used.
- Failure to disclose the actual risks and odds of such promotions.
Caesars Rewards and VIP Program Exploitation Allegations
The Caesars Rewards program allegedly exploits individuals prone to gambling addiction by tying betting volumes, regardless of win or loss, to perks and in-economy status. These enticements are allegedly offered even when the user shows signs of addiction or unsustainable financial losses.
Financial and Emotional Damage Associated With Caesars Gambling Addiction
Compulsive

Payout amounts are often based on the losses involved and the extent to which those losses are tied to misconduct on the part of Caesars. Note that losing money on a gambling app is not, by itself, likely to result in a payout.
When Is the Caesars Sportsbook Lawsuit Payout Date?
