If this consolidation is approved by the JPML, survivors and their families would be able to join a group lawsuit and share resources. In addition to Roblox Corporation, Meta (Instagram), Discord, and Snap Inc. (Snapchat) are also named as defendants. If a group lawsuit for Roblox child sex assault survivors is created, it would give survivors a simplified way to pursue justice. September 17, 2025: Family Files Lawsuit Against Roblox and Discord After Sex Abuse on Roblox Leads to Son’s Suicide

Parents of a 15-year-old boy have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Roblox and Discord. In their lawsuit, the parents allege that the sexual abuse that started on Roblox led their son to commit suicide. An adult posing as a child engaged with the teen and convinced him to send sexual material through Discord. The adult then digitally blackmailed the teen. The family alleges the gaming and messaging platforms did not do enough to protect their son from abuse and child pornography. They are seeking damages in their civil lawsuit.

September 4, 2025: Louisiana Sues Roblox for Failing to Protect Kids from Sexual Predators

Roblox Corporation is facing another lawsuit over failing to protect kids from sexual abuse on its platform. This time, the company is being sued by the State of Louisiana. Attorney General Liz Murrill has filed a lawsuit in Louisiana’s 21st Judicial District. The lawsuit accuses Roblox of intentionally and recklessly designing an online platform for children that allows them to be sexually abused and assaulted. Murrill says that without proper age-verification processes, the platform is frequented by adult sexual predators pretending to be children. In a press conference, Murrill said the game is, “defective by design.” In an X post, she called it, “a breeding ground for sexual predators.” This lawsuit adds to Roblox’s legal woes, as the company is already facing hundreds of lawsuits filed by parents of children who were victimized.

August 7, 2025: Georgia Mother Sues Roblox After Her Child Becomes Victim of Sexual Exploitation and Extortion

A Georgia mother is suing Roblox after she discovered that her child had been sexually exploited  on the platform. Multiple abusers sent her child sexually explicit images on Roblox and convinced the child to do the same. Her child was solicited by several adult predators on the platform, even though her child’s account was classified as an underage account and should not have been able to receive these messages. Roblox’s safeguards fell short, and the victim was groomed and abused by a predator who leveraged Roblox’s lax content moderation so they could commit terrible crimes.

July 21, 2025: Teenage Girls Separately Sue Roblox and Discord After Sexual Assault by Strangers They Met on Roblox

Two teenage girls have filed individual lawsuits against Roblox and Discord after they were sexually assaulted by men they met on Roblox. In both complaints, the victims describe a similar sequence of events. They befriended someone on Roblox, who then pressured them into chatting on Discord. The predators manipulated the victims into giving out personal information, which they used to carry out a rape and attempted rape. The underage girls and their parents accuse Roblox of not doing enough to monitor and prevent dangerous and explicit messages like the ones they were sent by the predators. In both cases, the victims’ parents had the parental controls on and trusted Roblox’s claims that their daughters could not be contacted by predators.

May 2, 2025: Older Teen Boy Used Roblox to Sexually Exploit and Abuse Children

A man named Christian Scribben allegedly used Roblox and Discord to manipulate and exploit children into abusing and molesting other children. Christian would require his victims to send pictures and videos of the sexual encounters. According to public reports, Christian may have talked to at least 4 or 5 children per day for a year or more to solicit these horrible crimes. Even though Christian is 17 years old, the heinous actions he has committed merit him being charged as an adult, and he is being held in an adult correctional facility without bail.

May 1, 2025: Texas Girl Sexually Abused by Man on Roblox, Discord, New Lawsuit Reports

A mom in Texas has sued the gaming platform Roblox and messaging app Discord after her daughter was groomed and assaulted by a man she met on Roblox. Like other parents, the victim’s mom trusted Roblox’s claim that it was a safe, child-friendly environment that would prevent adults from sending explicit messages to her daughter. Despite all parental controls being on, the predator was able to contact the victim, lure her onto Discord, and gather information he used to locate and assault her in real life.

February 22, 2025: Roblox, Discord Under Fire By Parents of California Boy Victimized by Serial Predator

A young boy in California was victimized by an adult male (Sebastian Romero) who pretended to be a child on Roblox so he could target and exploit children. Based on evidence uncovered during the investigation, law enforcement believes Sebastian has abused at least 25 other victims. In the lawsuit, the California victim’s father believes that Sebastian, like other predators, was able to target the victim because of Roblox’s failure to implement and use appropriate safety features that would have flagged inappropriate behavior before it escalated.

What Is Sexual Abuse on Roblox?

Sexual abuse occurs on Roblox when predators use the gaming platform to find, target, groom, extort, and abuse children. Roblox hosts thousands of mini-games, called experiences, that allow adults to interact with children in a virtual environment. These interactions happen because of inadequate in-game security features, lack of monitoring on Roblox’s behalf, and adults posing as children. During these interactions, some adults convince children to engage in sexually explicit conversations, exchange explicit images, and use sextortion tactics to further abuse victims through Roblox.

Although Roblox claims to have strict parental controls to protect minors, these safeguards are often ineffective. Adults and teenagers are able to create accounts and send sexually explicit messages to children, even if the children’s accounts are set to block messages or have parental controls enabled.

Additionally, predators are targeting children in Roblox games and convincing them to provide personal information to find and abuse these children in real life. In many cases, the predator has persuaded the victim to move the chat to messaging apps like Discord and Snapchat. There, the predators have been able to have unfiltered and unmonitored conversations with the child. Some of these conversations have allowed the predator to get the child’s address, which the predator uses to locate and sexually abuse the child.

Are There Child Predators on Roblox?

Yes. Roblox has become a popular way for pedophiles to find victims. About 39% daily active users on Roblox are under age 13. Roblox says it has about 111 million daily users, meaning about 44 million children under 13 use Roblox every day. Child sex predators exploit these demographics and have turned Roblox into a hunting ground.

Organizations like the 5Rights Foundation have called out Roblox for its loopholes and lack of practical safety features. They and other watchdog groups say Roblox does not do enough to prevent predators from preying on minors who game on the platform. Predators are able to use a number of tactics to blend in as they use Roblox games to locate and target vulnerable children.

Roblox claims it moderates chat messages for explicit and banned content; however, chilling reports of rampant abuse and misconduct on Roblox tell a different story. According to Roblox, users send an average of 6.1 billion chat messages and 1.1 million hours of voice communications in 28 different languages on the Roblox platform every day.

Roblox says it uses AI to screen almost all of that content because of the sheer quantity of communications. However, this means human content moderators rarely review exchanges on Roblox, allowing many sexually inappropriate communications to go unflagged. In fact, Roblox only employees about 3,000 moderators who review inappropriate activity on the platform.

Predators are abusing children on many different Roblox games; however, there are some styles of games that are riskier than others. For example, games where the players hang out or roleplay together in the virtual setting are common grounds for pedophiles to roam. Roblox also hosts “condo games,” which have sexually explicit content that is supposed to be banned but is not. Children are unknowingly entering these spaces and getting sucked in by predators who groom them and trick them into engaging in sexual activity.

How Do Sexual Predators Groom Children on Roblox?

Sexual predators use a number of tactics earn the trust of children. This behavior is called grooming. Typically, cyber-grooming on Roblox begins with the abuser creating a child-friendly or helpful avatar that piques the child’s or young teen’s interest. The child may feel like the person is a friend, and the predator may do things to make the child think thy are a helpful and knowledgeable guide in the game. The predator may even give the child in-game items, gifts, or Robux, which may reinforce the child’s feelings of trust and dependency. The predator will often pose as a child themselves, to make the child feel like they are engaging with a peer.

As predators are engaging in these behaviors, they may begin to slowly cross boundaries. This could include bringing up topics or sending messages that are inappropriate but not alarming to the child. If the predator gets away with these behaviors, they may escalate these to gain more access to the child and get them to do things the predator wants them to do.

Predators may ask the child to give out personal information or download another app (like Discord) or Snapchat where the predator and child can talk freely and continue their friendship. However, this is the stage where the predators may start to put the child in mental or physical harm. They may convince the child that they cannot tell their parents about their conversations, or else the child will get in trouble.

How Predators Get Information from Victims on Roblox

In order to get information or sexual material from a minor, predators on Roblox may engage in the following activities:

• Offer Robux to keep the child quiet or entice them to send sexually explicit images
• Offer Robux or other money to meet in real life
• Tell the child that if their parents find out they will be in trouble
• Tell the child their parents will take away Roblox or the internet if the parents find out what the child has done
• Tell the child their friends, coaches, teachers, or other respected adults will not like them anymore if they find out what the child has done on Roblox

These tactics are intended to manipulate and extort children who use and enjoy Roblox. These tactics may be especially effective if the child is addicted to Roblox. The perpetrators prey on children’s weaknesses and engage in cyber exploitation.

How Common Is Grooming on Roblox?

Grooming is becoming very common on Roblox. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Roblox reported 675 instances of child exploitation in 2019. By 2024, that number had risen to 24,522 cases. The increase in reports may be due to a number of factors, including advanced detection techniques and the growing popularity of Roblox. In 2024, Roblox noted that about 40% of its 85 million daily active users were under the age of 13. These children are all at risk of being groomed or abused by predators on the Roblox platform.

How Roblox, Discord, and Snapchat Are Linked in Child Exploitation Cases

Roblox, Discord, and Snapchat are named in civil and criminal legal actions involving child sexual abuse and exploitation. Many predators make contact with the children on Roblox first and slowly build up trust. Then, they introduce the idea of moving the conversation to Discord or Snapchat, which allows the predators to talk without the restrictions or moderation of Roblox. Many advocates compare this tactic to a predator earning a child’s trust and then asking them to follow to a vehicle or home.

Discord also enables the predators to interact with children via voice or video chats, giving them greater access to the children. Roblox lets people form in-game friendships and connections freely (even on age-restricted accounts). So, once the predators take advantage of this open system, they can transition the conversations to a less-monitored and more personal format like Discord or Snapchat.

Real Cases of Roblox Sexual Abuse, Child Exploitation, and Kidnappings

Interactions between children and predators often begin on Roblox and escalate into sexual violence or exploitation that occurs off-platform. As more parents and victims come forward about their experiences, the public and law enforcement are learning more about how these horrible crimes tend to occur. Through it all, Roblox maintains that it is a safe, secure, and fun environment for millions of users. Parents, victims, and advocates continue to push back against Roblox’s attempts to defend itself. Below are some examples of virtual grooming that led to in-person dangers.

10-Year-Old California Girl Abducted After Roblox Interactions (2025)

A 10-year-old girl from Taft, California, was groomed and eventually abducted by a man she met on Roblox. The predator (Matthew Macatuno Naval) is 27 years old, and he posed as a young boy on Roblox to gain the trust of his victim. He pressured her into joining him on the Discord platform, where he then manipulated her into giving him her physical address. Matthew abducted and assaulted her, and she was eventually found by authorities “hundreds of miles” away from her home. Roblox maintains that its platform is safe for children, despite accusations from victims, law enforcement, and advocacy groups pointing to stories like this, which paint a much grimmer picture.

13-Year-Old Iowa Girl Groomed and Trafficked in Multiple States (2025)

An adolescent girl in Iowa was kidnapped and sexually assaulted by a man (who is believed to be Martin Amaya Sandoval) she met on Roblox. Martin, who is in his 30s, created a fake account that made him look like he was a child as well. He befriended his victim and, after gaining her trust on Roblox, persuaded her to move their interactions to Snapchat, which is known for deleting messages after they have been read.

He discovered her personal information and kidnapped her while she was at a family member’s house. Martin was able to send the victim sexually explicit and romantic messages on Roblox, even though the victim’s account had parental controls on and should have blocked this type of content.

Other Reported Sexual Abuse Cases and Patterns of Child Exploitation

Dozens of chilling stories of child exploitation have also been uncovered across the country. They all follow the same pattern, where the predator takes advantage of the lax safety features in Roblox to gain access to their victims. Then, the predator befriends the victim and convinces them to take their conversations to another private messaging app (like Snapchat and Discord). Once they are off the Roblox platform, the predators can ramp up their harassment and exploitation to the point where they arrange in-person, real-world meetings with their victims.

Studies on Roblox and Sexual Abuse, Child Safety, and Sexual Predators

Researchers and law enforcement are investigating what specific patterns there are in how predators on Roblox identify, target, and abuse their victims. Many studies have shown the prevalence of and undeniable risks to children and teens on online platforms like Roblox.

Study About Cybergrooming in Online Environments

Cybergrooming is a growing threat, especially with the unprecedented surge in young people going online for connection and entertainment. However, researchers are still uncovering ways to detect, stop, and prevent cybergrooming. Thus far, they have uncovered several risk factors for a child being cybergroomed. These include online activity that is unmonitored by the platform or adults and the ability to talk online privately (such as on Discord). Emotional vulnerability is also an identified risk factor, such as if the victim shares something embarrassing, vulnerable, or something they feel guilty about. Predators often target children who seem to be longing for connection and who may be facing challenges in their personal lives.

Parents can help to protect their children by heavily supervising and mediating their children’s game time and online interactions. Platforms like Roblox can keep children safe by having effective and strong moderation features and restrictions on children’s accounts.

Scientific Insights on Online Grooming

A 2021 research study conducted by Thorn found that predators tend to start to groom their targets on a public platform like Roblox. Once they have established a relationship with their victim, they suggest or coerce the victim into talking to them in private, unmoderated messaging spaces. The idea is that the predator will work with the victim to develop a relationship with elements of secrecy and dependence, which works to the predator’s advantage.

However, in a 2022 report, one in three boys between the ages of 9 and 12 said they received a “cold” request for explicit images of themselves (like a nude picture). A cold request or solicitation is from someone the person has not talked to before, in real life or on the platform. Because online grooming and exploitation can be immediate and gradual, it is particularly important for Roblox and other games to have impeccable moderation features.

National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Online Exploitation Trends Report

In 2024, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) fielded about 29.2 million separate reports of online child sexual exploitation from dozens of platforms, including Roblox. The Center noted that it expected to see much higher numbers due to a new law that increased the reportable behaviors.

According to NCMEC’s “2024 CyberTipline Reports by Electronic Service Providers,” Roblox submitted 24,522 tips regarding the discovery of explicit childhood material on its platform. In comparison, other platforms frequented by children have referred many more cases to the NCMEC. Facebook submitted 8,590,357 tips, Tik-Tok submitted 1,359,806, and Discord submitted 241,354. It is suspected that Roblox is not properly investigating, identifying, and reporting content that is inappropriate for minors.

NCMEC believes that end-to-end encryption methods used by platforms may be allowing some predators to circumvent the platform’s secure settings. According to the agency, companies can help keep children safe by implementing child sexual exploitation exceptions to these cybersecurity rules. This would allow the platforms to monitor a broader range of interactions that could flag and stop abuse from occurring.

Who Can File a Roblox Sexual Abuse Lawsuit?

Any minor who was sexually approached, coerced, or abused by an adult they met on Roblox may be able to file a civil lawsuit against the Roblox Corporation. For example, someone may be eligible to file a Roblox sexual abuse lawsuit if they were under 18 at the time they were abused and they met the person on Roblox. The proposed litigation is called In Re: Roblox Child Sexual Exploitation/Assault Litigation. It would represent people who sexually exploited while playing Roblox as minors.

This request has been submitted to the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML). If the JPML moves forward with the consolidation, a multidistrict litigation (MDL) would be created for Roblox CSA survivors. MDLs are typically created when many people are harmed in a similar way by the same entity, in this case, Roblox Corporation.

An MDL is a type of group lawsuit where those harmed (plaintiffs) can proceed through some steps of the legal process as a group. An MDL is typically good for plaintiffs, as it decreases legal burdens and allows for individual settlement amounts. Lawyers representing survivors have asked for the MDL to be created in federal courts in the Northern District of California.

If an MDL is created for CSA on Roblox, survivors who were groomed and exploited on Roblox and connected third-party apps would have new legal options. In the initial filing, Roblox Corporation, Discord, Meta, and Snap, Inc. are all named as potential defendants. It is common for adult abusers to find children on Roblox and then ask them to communicate using a more private, third-party app. So, these lawsuits are pursuing compensation from multiple responsible companies.

The filing accuses Roblox Corporation of failing to protect children who use the platform. The filing says that despite Roblox officials’ claims that it is one of the safest online environments, that “Roblox has created a powerful tool for
child sex predators.”
