Many people harmed by Roundup have received settlements after being diagnosed with cancer. Bayer, which purchased Roundup’s manufacturer, Monsanto, has already paid more than $10 billion in settlements and awards to people whose cancer was caused by Roundup and similar products. Thousands of Roundup lawsuits have been settled or dismissed, but there are still many active lawsuits that could end in settlements. Currently, there are more than 60,000 claims pending in federal and state courts.

A global settlement may be reached soon, which could resolve thousands of the existing cancer claims and create a fund to compensate future victims. People who were exposed to Roundup and developed non-Hodgkin lymphoma, other types of lymphoma, and leukemia can still join this active lawsuit by filing an individual claim and joining the federal MDL, In re: Roundup Products Liability Litigation (MDL No. 2741).

Bayer Roundup Cancer Settlements News (2025)

August 18, 2025: Bayer Transfers More Than $1 Billion to Roundup Settlement Fund

Bayer added another $1.4 billion into its Roundup cancer settlement fund, bringing the new total to about $10 billion paid out and $6 billion remaining in the fund. Bayer anticipates having to pay out compensation to more people who developed cancer after exposure to its popular herbicide. Scientific studies have shown that the glyphosate in Roundup is associated with many different types of cancer, including leukemia and lymphoma. Internal records have suggested that Monsanto, now owned by Bayer, knew of these risks and did not tell the public. People are filing lawsuits against Bayer because Bayer did not warn them that Roundup could cause cancer or advise on proper precautions when handling the chemical.

June 26, 2025: Bayer Reaches Settlement in Missouri Roundup Landscaper Claim

Albert Grantges won a confidential settlement just before the jury issued a verdict after a four-week trial. He developed non-Hodgkin lymphoma after using the glyphosate-containing Roundup weed killer during his 20-year career as a landscaper. Albert also used Roundup for personal gardening and landscaping uses. Albert’s lawyers presented Monsanto’s business records, which showed that company executives talked about ghostwriting research articles claiming glyphosate was safe. Bayer has been following a similar pattern in other Roundup cases, where it rushes to settle the lawsuits before the jury releases its verdict. The terms of Albert’s Roundup settlement are confidential, which is typical for these types of claims.

June 2, 2025: Missouri Court Awards over $600 Million to Three Plaintiffs Affected by Roundup Cancer

A Missouri court has upheld a recent verdict issued by a jury that determined that Roundup’s manufacturer, Monsanto (Bayer), is responsible for Daniel Anderson, Scott Draeger, and Valerie Gunther developing non-Hodgkin lymphoma. All three of them used Roundup on their or their family members’ properties for years before they received their cancer diagnosis. A jury awarded them a $611 million Roundup settlement, which, with interest, will total over $700 million. Thousands of plaintiffs are awaiting their trials or settlements, and many more are expected to join in this fight.

May 9, 2025: Bayer Pays Over $175 Million Roundup Award to Man in Pennsylvania

Ernest Caranci received a $177 million trial verdict in Pennsylvania after he developed cancer because of his exposure to Roundup. The jury determined that Bayer (which purchased Roundup’s original manufacturer, Monsanto, in 2018) was at fault for Ernest’s cancer diagnosis. The glyphosate in Roundup is connected with an increased cancer risk, and Bayer did not warn the public about these findings. Bayer attempted to appeal this decision. However, the court handling the appeal affirmed the jury’s verdict, allowing Ernest to receive his Roundup settlement.

March 24, 2025: Georgia Plaintiff Receives About $2 Billion in Roundup Cancer Payout

A man in Georgia has won his Roundup lawsuit by securing a $2.1 billion verdict. He developed cancer after using Roundup, which contains the carcinogen glyphosate, for many years. After a thorough trial, the jury determined that Bayer was responsible for the man’s cancer. They awarded over $60 million in compensation for the man’s cancer and related losses. The jury also issued a $2 billion punitive damages award to punish Bayer and Monsanto for their misconduct.

About the Roundup Settlement

About Roundup Cancer Lawsuit Settlements

Bayer has settled thousands of Roundup lawsuits, allowing plaintiffs to receive a payout without having to go to trial. A Roundup settlement is monetary compensation paid to someone who filed a Roundup lawsuit after a cancer diagnosis. Roundup lawsuit settlements compensate plaintiffs through negotiations with Bayer. If a plaintiff accepts a settlement related to their cancer, they agree to drop their lawsuit.

Alternatively, plaintiffs may go to trial and receive compensation if the jury decides the case in their favor. Plaintiffs need to meet the eligibility criteria to request a settlement. Eligibility criteria include being exposed to Roundup and developing certain types of cancer later in life.

Even though Bayer has paid thousands of Roundup settlements, it still faces thousands of pending and future lawsuits. Due to the length of time between exposure and diagnosis, more lawsuits are expected to be filed in the future, which could result in additional settlements.

Public reports signal that, in total, Bayer has set aside $16 billion to cover Roundup cancer settlements, some of which have already been paid out to claimants. Existing and future plaintiffs with a qualifying claim against Bayer may be eligible to receive a payout from these funds.

Does Filing a Roundup Cancer Claim Result in a Settlement?

Filing a Roundup cancer claim can result in a settlement. You would need to prove that you meet the eligibility criteria for filing a lawsuit and a potential payout. For example, you would need to prove that you were exposed to Roundup and were diagnosed with a cancer that is associated with glyphosate. You also need to file your claim on time. Your case may go to trial, or it may result in a settlement. You and your legal team will decide how to proceed based on the circumstances of your case.

Will Bayer Create a Fund to Handle Roundup Cancer Payouts?

Bayer has created a fund to handle Roundup cancer payouts for current and future plaintiffs. Bayer has already settled thousands of claims. However, more lawsuits are pending and being filed, so Bayer has said it will continue to set aside billions to resolve future Roundup lawsuits. Recently, Bayer put another $1.37 billion into a settlement fund to cover future cancer claims.

Because it can take years for someone to develop cancer after being exposed to the glyphosate in Roundup, people will be filing claims against Bayer for many years as they discover the reason for their condition. Bayer is attempting to replace the now-recalled Roundup with Cropkey, which does not contain glyphosate. However, even if Bayer phases out Roundup in the United States, the company is still liable for harm caused by Roundup that contained glyphosate.

What Cancer Diagnosis Qualifies for a Roundup Settlement?

Here are some of the cancers that qualify someone for a Roundup lawsuit and allow them to pursue a settlement against Bayer:

  • Hairy cell leukemia
  • Small lymphocytic leukemia
  • T-Cell lymphoma
  • B-Cell lymphoma
  • Burkitt lymphoma
  • Chronic lymphocytic lymphoma
  • Follicular lymphoma
  • Lymphoblastic lymphoma
  • Mantle cell lymphoma
  • Marginal zone lymphoma
  • Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
  • T-Cell lymphoma

Consumers, community members, farmworkers, and others who came into contact with Roundup and were diagnosed with certain types of lymphoma or leukemia may qualify for a settlement. The human-made chemical glyphosate was prized for its ability to kill weeds. However, many studies show it may cause blood cancers and other disorders.

How Do Survival Rates Affect Roundup Cancer Settlements?

Roundup is associated with different types of leukemia and lymphoma. Each of these cancers has different sub-types. Some types of cancer have better survival rates than others. However, that rate depends on how soon the cancer is diagnosed, what treatments are chosen, cancer cell types, and other factors.

For example, the 5-year survival rate for non-Hodgkin lymphoma is 74%. The 5-year survival rate for hairy cell leukemia is 95%. However, lymphoblastic leukemia has a 5-year survival rate of 31.5%.

If the person diagnosed with a Roundup-related cancer passes away, their surviving loved ones may be eligible for a more substantial settlement. However, settlement negotiations are complex, and there are various factors that determine the amount offered. For example, someone may survive for years or decades after being diagnosed with Roundup-related cancer. That person may also have substantial medical bills related to ongoing treatment and be awarded a substantial settlement.

That is why it is important to work with a reputable attorney who does not rush a settlement offer and fights for a fair settlement for the patient and their family.

Is There Enough Proof Linking Glyphosate Weed Killers to Cancer To Drive Settlements?

Yes, there is enough proof linking glyphosate weed killers to cancer. In March 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer classified the herbicide glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans” based on studies showing a higher incidence of cancer among people and lab animals exposed to it. Something that is probably carcinogenic means it probably causes cancer in humans.

A groundbreaking 2025 animal study found that glyphosate significantly increased rats’ cancer rates, even when they were exposed to glyphosate levels deemed “safe” by the European Union. Rats in the experiments had higher rates of various types of leukemia.

Another study found that being exposed to glyphosate raised someone’s non-Hodgkin lymphoma cancer risk by 41%. Because of the strong connection between Roundup’s ingredient, glyphosate, and cancer, Bayer has paid out billions in settlements to people who filed lawsuits after they were diagnosed with or their loved one died from cancer.

What Are the Other Eligibility Requirements for a Roundup Cancer Settlement?

People may also be eligible for a Roundup settlement if they were exposed to Roundup for at least 50 hours during their lifetime. They need to have used, mixed, or applied glyphosate as part of their job or in their personal life after 1974. Some evidence people can use to prove that they were exposed to Roundup includes pay stubs and job descriptions, or receipts for purchases for their home gardens. Photographs and statements from witnesses may also be used as evidence. An attorney can help you figure out what evidence would be most effective at strengthening your claim.

What Type of Roundup Cancer Settlements Are Available?

People can pursue Roundup settlements by filing a direct personal injury claim or a wrongful death lawsuit after developing certain types of leukemia and lymphoma. In both types of lawsuits, the person filing the case can seek a settlement or a trial verdict. Attorneys can help people understand what the eligibility criteria and filing deadlines are for each.

Personal Injury Claim for Roundup Cancer

A personal injury claim allows a Roundup victim to request direct damages for their losses. These might include the medical expenses to diagnose, treat, and manage their glyphosate-associated cancer. Additionally, they might ask for funds to cover their lost wages or earning capacity. They may also qualify for damages for their pain and suffering and loss of quality of life because of their diagnosis. If the person passes away before their case is completed, an attorney can help their surviving loved ones convert the case into a wrongful death suit.

Wrongful Death Claim for Roundup Cancer

Many people lost loved ones because of cancer caused by Roundup exposure. While nothing will truly compensate them for their loss, they may qualify for compensation by filing a wrongful death claim. This type of claim allows them to recover a settlement to help relieve their financial stress while they grieve. Benefits they may receive include funeral and burial costs, mental anguish, punitive damages, loss of support, and loss of companionship.

What is the Average Roundup Cancer Settlement Per Person?

Past Roundup payouts have averaged around $160,000. However, each person’s Roundup settlement will be personalized to their case and situation.

Factors Affecting a Roundup Cancer Settlement

Many different factors can affect the value of someone’s Roundup settlement. For example, people whose cancer is advanced or severe may recover a larger payout, as may younger people with children or other dependents. Likewise, the liability laws of the state where the person files the case may impact how much they can receive in damages. The strength and quality of the person’s evidence to support their claim can also affect how much their final Roundup settlement is.

Examples of Roundup Cancer Awards

The terms of any settlement are typically confidential. So, people who obtain settlements after filing a Roundup cancer lawsuit are not allowed to share settlement details. This means that how much a Roundup settlement is worth is part of a public record. However, how much someone is awarded at the conclusion of a trial is public information. Here are some examples of payouts people have received after filing a lawsuit related to cancer caused by Roundup.

Man Awarded $2.1 Billion for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Injuries

Roundup settlements have varied widely, based on the circumstances of the victim’s illnesses. For example, a Georgia man won a $2.1 billion Roundup trial verdict against Bayer for causing his non-Hodgkin lymphoma. About $65 million of this damages award is for his compensatory damages, and $2 billion was awarded to punish Bayer for its wrongdoing.

Man Awarded $2.25 Billion for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Injuries

John McKivison in Pennsylvania was awarded $2.25 billion from Bayer because the man developed non-Hodgkin lymphoma after two decades of using Roundup at home. $2 billion of John’s Roundup settlement is punitive damages imposed on Bayer.

Other Plaintiffs Receive Jury Awards for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma

Other plaintiffs have received between $1.2 million and over $2 billion for their Roundup settlement as well. Roundup settlements are determined on a case-by-case basis, so each person’s damages award will be calculated based on their losses, the applicable law, and other relevant factors.

How Long Did I Have to Use Glyphosate Weedkillers to Qualify for a Settlement?

To qualify for a settlement, the person must have used Roundup for at least 50 hours during their lifetime. These 50 hours do not need to have occurred in a short amount of time. The exposure could have occurred through at-home use or at their job.

Occupations That May Qualify for Roundup Cancer Settlement

Certain occupations put someone at an increased risk of cancers related to glyphosate exposure. People who handled, sprayed, applied, or manufactured Roundup have an increased risk of cancer.

Common professions that use or encounter Roundup include:

  • Farmers
  • Detasselers (corn crop maintenance)
  • Landscapers
  • Mowers
  • Maintenance workers or groundskeepers
  • Forestry workers
  • Agricultural workers, farmhands, and farmworkers
  • At-home garden hobbyists

The person needs to be able to show that they used Roundup for at least 50 hours. For example, they might have gardened at home for at least one hour a week for 50 weeks or more, and they applied Roundup to their yard. Farmworkers can show that they mixed or sprayed Roundup on crops or gardens during their shifts, or were around when coworkers did.

When Will Bayer Pay Roundup Cancer Settlements?

Bayer has already paid out settlements for past claims in individual lawsuits and some group claims related to Roundup. These payments have been made as part of negotiated settlement deals and trial verdicts. People who were recently diagnosed with cancer and filed a new lawsuit may need to wait several months or more than a year to receive a settlement. Pursuing a fair settlement takes time and attention.

Will There Be a Global Settlement for Roundup?

Many legal experts believe that Bayer may enter into a global or group settlement deal to resolve claims made by future plaintiffs. Bayer has entered into similar agreements in the past to settle a group of lawsuits at the same time. Approximately 60,000 Roundup lawsuits are pending and active against Bayer. Bayer has set aside billions of dollars into a litigation fund, which it says it will use to cover future Roundup lawsuits. Bayer may also negotiate a global settlement agreement to settle a number of these all at once.
