Kayla G. Conti is a personal injury attorney at King Law. Kayla was born and raised in Westchester County, New York. In 2018, Kayla graduated from Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, MD, where she studied political science and professional writing.

After college, Kayla worked as a Court Clerk Assistant in the Croton-on-Hudson Village Court in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Kayla subsequently started law school at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University (Haub Law) in White Plains, NY. While in law school, Kayla interned at the New York City Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Mental Hygiene Legal Service for the Appellate Division Second Judicial Department. She also served as a Pro Bono Scholar at Legal Services of the Hudson Valley. Kayla received her J.D. and an Advanced Certificate in Health Law and Policy from Haub Law in 2022.

After law school, Kayla worked as a public interest legal fellow at Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto, LLP in Washington, D.C., a firm focused on protecting corporate whistleblowers. In this role, Kayla assisted clients with their filings for whistleblower rewards programs. Kayla supported senior attorneys in all stages of lawsuits, from filing complaints with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to participating in settlement negotiations with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Kayla also researched policy issues and co-authored amicus briefs filed in two U.S. Supreme Court cases (U.S. ex rel. Schutte v. SuperValu, Inc. and Murray v. UBS Securities, LLC).

Prior to joining King Law, Kayla was the Program Manager for the Public Interest Law Center (PILC) at Haub Law.  In this role, Kayla supported and facilitated PILC’s operations and programs and co-coordinated the law school’s public service summer funding program.

Significant Litigation

U.S. ex rel. Schutte v. SuperValu, Inc. (598 U.S. 739): Co-authored amicus brief on behalf of the National Whistleblower Center (NWC) as a Public Interest Legal Fellow at Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto, LLP. The United States Supreme Court unanimously ruled in favor of NWC’s position, holding that the scienter requirement of the False Claims Act includes the defendant’s subjective knowledge and beliefs.

Murray v. UBS Securities, LLC (601 U.S. 23): Co-authored amicus brief on behalf of the NWC as a Public Interest Legal Fellow at Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto, LLP. The United States Supreme Court unanimously ruled in favor of NWC’s position, holding that the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) does not require an extra burden on whistleblowers to prove an employer acted with retaliatory intent in an adverse employment action.

Volunteer Work

In 2024, Kayla was nominated and elected to a 3-year term on the Board of Directors for Haub Law’s Alumni Association. Since 2022, Kayla has raised funds, volunteered at events, and served as a policy advocate for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Hudson Valley/Westchester chapter.
