Eight Burned Bodies Found In Rochester Region

Rochester Police have discovered yet another burned body within the region this year, this time in La Grange Park in northwest Rochester. According to reports, a passer-by found the body at around 6:20 a.m. in a wooded area in the park near some basketball courts and called the police. The victim’s age, gender, or identity have yet to be released. This marks the 8th burned body found in the area since January, with all of the previous cases remaining unsolved.

According to the various police agencies involved in these cases, there is no evidence to suggest that the cases are linked in any way, though the number of cases is undoubtedly unusual. In January, Rochester firefighters discovered the burned bodies of four individuals on the third floor of a Leighton Avenue home. Later in February, Macedon Center firefighters found a burning body in a car on an access road close to the Erie Canal. Several months later in May, a body in a burning vehicle was found by Livingston County deputies on state-owned land near Union Corners Road in West Sparta. Finally in July, New York State Police said passers-by spotted a burning body on the side of Lacey Road in Caledonia.

NO CONNECTION BETWEEN DEATHS, EXPERTS SAY

As of early July, no arrests have been made in connection with the cases, with only the West Sparta death having been declared accidental. Several other cases remain mysteries, including the 2011 death of a 72-year-old man whose body was found burned in the trunk of his car in Genesee Valley Park. Similarly, the October 2010 homicide of a pregnant 33-year-old woman who was found burning in a ditch along Pierpont Road has yet to be solved.
