Greg Colavecchia

Mr. Colavecchia was born and raised in Rochester, New York. He is a 2003 graduate of Gates-Chili High School. After high school, Mr. Colavecchia chose to stay close to home and attended the University of Rochester, where he studied political science and history. At the University of Rochester, he also excelled as a member of the soccer team. During college, he developed an interest in the law when he began taking courses focusing on the Fourth Amendment taught by a prominent local defense attorney.

After graduating from the University of Rochester, Mr. Colavecchia attended Buffalo Law School, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. While in law school, Mr. Colavecchia
worked at a small civil litigation law firm, which allowed him to gain extensive experience.

Prior Experience

Mr. Colavecchia knew early on that his passion and interest was in criminal law. Upon passing the Bar Exam, he was hired as an Assistant District Attorney for Monroe County where he
served for almost 8 years, eventually earning the title of Senior Assistant District Attorney. He was first assigned to a local court clerk’s office where he prosecuted thousands of
misdemeanors, including DUI, petty larceny, assault, drug offenses, forcible touching and sexual assault.

Mr. Colavecchia was quickly promoted to the Special Victims Courts Division, where he prosecuted domestic violence, child abuse and child pornography cases. After spending over a
year here, Mr. Colavecchia was promoted to the Violent Felony Division, where he spent the next four years, prosecuting more than 300 violent crimes in his career.

Mr. Colavecchia transitioned to the Economic Crime Division where he prosecuted felony level white-collar crime including forgery, embezzlement, Grand larceny, and counterfeit money
cases.

During his time in the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Colavecchia was entrusted to prosecute over twenty individuals for homicide cases including charges of Murder in the First Degree, Murder in the Second Degree, and Manslaughter.

Criminal Defense and Title IX Defense

Since joining King Law in 2019, Mr. Colavecchia has excelled at defending individuals who are charged with a crime or are being investigated for a crime. He is licensed to practice in both state
and federal court, representing individuals charged with a variety of charges including murder, drug conspiracy, grand larceny, child pornography, and sexual offenses.

At the beginning of his career in private practice, Mr. Colavecchia began representing students on college campuses facing Title IX violations for sexual assault. While individuals who face these violations do not necessarily need attorneys, he quickly realized that the protections and rights afforded to accused students are few and far between and that students must be protected by an attorney. He has now successfully defended numerous students who were facing suspension and expulsion.

Notable Results:

Criminal
In People v. F.R., Mr. Colavecchia successfully defended his client who was facing up to 25 years in prison for the charge of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, earning a complete Not Guilty verdict after trial.

In People v. E.B., Mr. Colavecchia successfully defended the rights of his client who was facing up to 50 years to life for charges of Murder and Attempted Murder. Mr. Colavecchia was able to call into question the strength of the charges and negotiated a plea to Manslaughter that resulted
in the client with a 10 year sentence.

In People v. J.T., Mr. Colavecchia’s client was charged with a misdemeanor for Forcible Touching. After filing motions, the charge was dismissed, preserving the client’s ability to
maintain his profession.

Title IX

Mr. Colavecchia successfully defended his client, Z.L., at a Title IX Hearing. His client was charged at a local SUNY college with sexual assault after a fraternity date party. The charges
were false and through a combination of testimony and evidence, Z.L. was found not responsible.

Mr. Colavecchia has successfully defended five students charged with Title IX violations for sexual assaults. All five cases proceeded all the way to a hearing. In all five cases, the students
were all found not responsible.
